Customer review websites are common place on the internet. Many of us will not book a holiday without first checking a resort’s ranking on Tripadvisor, so the recent announcement that the government is planning to introduce a “Tripadvisor style” website which will rate the UK’s care providers is, on the face of it, very exciting news.

Highlighting the increasingly important role that 24 hour live in support plays in the care sector, national live in care provider Helping Hands Home Care (Helping Hands) has appointed two expert advisors who will provide guidance and consultation on key areas of the business strategy. Dr Robert Heaven and Dr Rekha Elaswarapu will join Helping Hands as Special Advisors on January 1st 2012.

A recent report commissioned by a leading charity has concluded that a ‘democratic revolution’ in the way that care homes are run is required across Britain.
The report was commissioned by Sue Ryder, a UK health and social care charity, to look at the future care needs of an aging Britain; the findings prompted the charity to speak out about the way that care homes are currently being run in the UK.

For those of you that follow us on twitter you will know that this Saturday saw the finals of The Great British Homecare Awards at the Royal Courts of Justice in London. Hosted by Kate Garraway the event saw providers from the whole of the country gathering to celebrate excellence across the social care sector. And what a successful night we had, as a company we came runner up in the Large Care Employer Award – however the star of the whole show was Julie Mills who won The Care Trainer of The Year Award – its official, we have the best trainer in the land !!

Today, there is to be a second reading on the Welfare Reform Bill, which affects all manner of provision including Housing Benefit, Incapacity Benefit - now renamed the Employment Support Allowance - and the Disability Living Allowance (DLA).
These changes will affect disabled people in a multitude of ways, particularly those who use residential care.
